China’s Ministry of Emergency Management released a list of the country’s ten most devastating natural disasters in 2022. These disasters impacted more than 63.98 million people, and caused casualties of 250 and a direct economic loss of 189.55 billion Chinese yuan.

Among the ten most devastating natural disasters, half were floods, accounting for more than 60% of the economic loss. Floods were the main causes of missing people and deaths.

In terms of impacted population, the continuous drought in the Yangtze River Basin since the 2022 summer was the worst, which has brought under its influence 39.78 million.Among the list of ten, eight were water-related, which coincides with WMO’s analysis of the global situation in the past 50 years. Managing water is still one of the greatest challenges to the human race.
